class=\"fusion-sep-clear\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-3\"><p>On the occasion of the election of the new Bishop of Spire in 1272 the Fleckenstein family\u00a0supported on the favorite Fr\u00e9deric de Bolanden&#8230; for a consideration.<\/p>\n<p>Fr\u00e9deric, once safely elected &#8216;forgot&#8217; his promise to pay his supporters.<\/p>\n<p>It being the time of the\u00a0\u00ab Great Inter regnum \u00bb Wolfram de Fleckenstein took advantage of the absence of Imperial\u00a0authority and captured the Bishop and held him prisoner in the castle.<\/p>\n<p>The newly elected Emperor Rudolph decided to waste no time reestablishing his authority and\u00a0beseiged the castle.<\/p>\n<p>Seeing the hopelessness of his position Wolfram surrendered and gave up his\u00a0prisoner.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-fullwidth fullwidth-box fusion-builder-row-3 general of the Emperor fought with the Bavarians, whilst his\u00a0brother, Frederick Wolfgang fought for the French and was even appointed Mar\u00e9chal de Camp by\u00a0Louis XIV.<\/p>\n<p>(a curious fact given that the Sun King caused the destruction of the family castle).<\/p>\n<p>The story tells us a lot about the splits that have torn Alsace, right up to the birth of class=\"fusion-sep-clear\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-7\"><p>The ruins of the castle were sold as &#8216;biens nationaux&#8217; at the time of the French Revolution.<\/p>\n<p>They \u2013 and the aristocratic title attached to them \u00ad attracted the attention of General Olivier\u00a0Harty, of Irish descent and member of the Grande Arm\u00e9e of Napoleon I.<\/p>\n<p>Harty bought the castle ruins and so became Baron de Pierrebourg (Pierre means Stein in\u00a0German and Bourg means Flecken) thanks to the Emperor on January 1st 1813<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-fullwidth fullwidth-box fusion-builder-row-5 hundred-percent-fullwidth non-hundred-percent-height-scrolling
