The Castle of Challenges

The trail is aimed at making the children aware of the Middel Ages but also to encourage good fellowship and exchanges amongst the participants. Experience has shown that it is an excellent way of getting children with different languages together. French, German and English children participate on an equal footing both in writing and speaking. It immerses the children in a medieval world that was very European.

The Castle of Challenges trail is the innovative exploration of a historic building and the opportuinty to live an adventure for three hours, in another era. It mixes the real and the imaginary in life size settings and takes the participants on the same quest : find the treasure of the Fleckensteins and rebuild the castle. The twenty play stations require transferable skills such as powers of observation, logic, mathematics, skill, agility, determination…

The historical information panels are there to convey the basics facts about the Middle Ages. The visit is therefore educational and fun and becomes a remarkable joint experience that unites the class.

To work well it is necessary to form mixed groups (8 to 15 years old) lead by one of your own accompanying adults. The function of the adult is to encourage group thinking and to note the reactions of the young people on the document provided at the start (carte des défis).
